New York Radon Mitigation and HUD The new updates to HUD covered in last month’s article from S.W.A.T. Environmental may have brought a shock to many. Such a dangerous gas is now covering the nation, and bringing fear to those who are uninformed about the New York radon mitigation capabilities of S.W.A.T. Environmental. The recent updates from HUD are now requiring that every multi-family home financed through HUD must have a radon test conducted in order to determine whether or not the unit is safe for tenants. Additionally, a New York radon mitigation system will need to be installed in any system that has high levels of radon gas. These regulations may come as a shocker to many, but those informed about the statistics of radon gas probably know they could not have come any sooner. This gas is responsible for killing 20,000 or more people each year in the [...]

NY residents are receiving exciting news in regard to the safety of their home. If you rent a home in New York, then your landlord may be required to have a radon test, and a mitigation system installed if needed. The American Lung Association is happy to announce that HUD, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, has made it mandatory that every multi-family home financed through HUD will be required to have a radon test. Additionally, any multi-family home financed through HUD that tests with high levels of gas will be required to have an air purification system installed to reduce the levels of the gas, and improve safety. This motion stems from the larger group that HUD is a part of. The group consists of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy, and of course the U.S. [...]

Radon Mitigation in Schools in New York is Needed Residents of New York need to take further action in helping make certain that their schools have an adequate level of safety. As you may have heard recently, there was a deeply saddening news story about a shooting in Newtown, CT. While this event deeply saddens many, and sparks a debate about guns and school safety, there is one part of school safety that does not have to be so complicated. When it comes to school safety, all schools should be radon free. Radon gas is a deadly gas that forms in the soil beneath homes and buildings in NY, and across America. While this gas is deadly and should be treated likewise, many have not taken the necessary precaution in protecting their home, much less their schools. Radon gas forms in the soil when uranium breaks down. This is a [...]

The Danger of Radon in Water Radon is a radioactive gas with no color, odor or taste. Like helium, it is a noble gas. Radon is created as a byproduct of the breakdown of radioactive elements like thorium and uranium commonly found underground all over the country. This process is known as the radioactive decay chain. Because radon itself also exhibits a high degree of radioactivity, exposure to it can be extremely harmful. Furthermore, radon in water is particularly dangerous due to its tendency to build up inside homes in the New York region. As the elements in the soil beneath a house decay and create radon, the gas can rise into the home through cracks and other abnormalities in the foundation. Inside the home, radon becomes trapped, usually below the third floor, and its levels continue to grow. Perhaps an even more subtle source of radon gas contamination is [...]
